That's it, we closed out! – Nour El Zayat

- +

That’s it, we closed out! is a contemporaneous and highly topical commentary on life under the newly imposed and longevously apparent restrictions faced by much of the world under the grasp of coronavirus.

El Zayat provides a cunning juxtaposition of a highly stylised portrait over an emptied café setting. It evokes thought on the ever-changing normal and the forbidden nature of daily gatherings, further begging the question of time, and how passage continues to exist in these public places which are now empty. That’s it, we closed out further seeks to investigate the notion of loneliness, and emptiness, where the never-ending and ever-ubiquitous sense of separation is brought to attention by the chair awaiting the end of the pandemic, and ultimately, a patron to perch on top of it.

Nour El Zayat is an interior designer turned digital artist. She holds a bachelor’s degree in interior design from Virginia Commonwealth University, and today lives and works in Qatar, where she is able to take her formal training and global experiences to explore, advocate and inspire through her challenging output.
