Sustenance - Nour El Zayat

- +

Sustenance is an artwork of two. It provides a distinct, malignant and spellbinding portrayal of lower-class life, yet supposes a sense of hope, guardianship and welcomed peace. Nour El Zayat effectively superimposes, over the top of a seemingly helpless stall girl waiting for customers, a poised and charming portrait of the young lady in single-line drawing alongside ‘رزق ’ - a cultural and religious term referring to financial sustenance, blessings and being at peace with one's faith in god.

It provides a stark and meaningful investigation into the role of faith throughout society and posits several questions around religion's influence in the happiness, hope and wellbeing of those who follow it.

Nour El Zayat is an interior designer turned digital artist. She holds a bachelor’s degree in interior design from Virginia Commonwealth University, and today lives and works in Qatar, where she is able to take her formal training and global experiences to explore, advocate and inspire through her challenging output.
