With technology, a competitive workforce & the new belief system that places success, development and hierarchy above time for personal growth, when can we take a moment to ‘stop and smell the roses?’ Life is not a race emphasises this notion.

Drawing inspiration from the layout of quattrocento Madonna and Child paintings, Life is not a race depicts a female figure, in black and white, holding a declaration which reads ‘it’s ok to grow with the speed that suits you’. She is covered in luscious, vibrant flora and fauna, immersed in the beauty of nature, yet entirely still, poised and complete. What is joy today, and what is the meaning of life, if we are only living to move onto the next step? Life is not a race begs the question of other, and whether alternate forms (and speeds) of living may be more beneficial.

Shahad Nazer is a Saudi Arabian and Egyptian Artist who works primarily in collage. She is currently working as an artist and graphic designer and has been painting since she was 10 years old. Her work often explores topics such as female empowerment, the Middle East, and sustainability.

Comes in our framed canvas which is a 38mm stretched canvas within a traditional picture frame. The simple addition of a high quality wooden picture frame creates a completely new form of wall art; quite distinct to any other form and is sure to create a timeless piece on your wall.

The thin frame sits approximately 5mm from the edge of the canvas helping create a floating border.
