“Quarantine not War
Food not Hunger
Home not Refuge”
Juxtaposition is a work which explores opposites. Through the striking visual motif of a masked heroine, we witness several opposites: that of daily life under quarantine, which brings on questions of safety, security and war, paired with a remnant and unfortunately distant memory of life prior to the pandemic. It does, however, instil hope regarding this unfortunate period of human history. The earth, held in the palm of the beguiling female figure, indicates not only an idea of positivity but a welcomes a deeper sense of kinship into play. We should mask ourselves, remain positive, help others, and the world, via our good deeds, such that the world will be nurtured into the flourishing society is was not so long ago.
